Delaware– As people prepare for the Memorial Day holiday, the Delaware Division of Public Health is reminding Delawareans to celebrate in a healthy way, free from injury or foodborne illness, with some safety guidelines.
One suggestion from DPH is to use a cooler filled with ice or frozen gel packs to bring food to a picnic or cookout, keeping meat and eggs in a container kept at a temperature below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Ice for beverages, however, should be kept in a separate container. Also, keep cold foods on ice until they’re ready to be served.
In addition to fireworks, DPH says, strange sights and crowds can scare animals and cause them to flee. The group suggests using a crate or escape-proof area of ββthe home during parties and fireworks and asks guests to refrain from sharing food meant for people because this could cause your pet’s stomach to get upset, or worse.
